Soon after Tammy Duckworth was appointed as Assistant Secretary, Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator Isakson, (R-GA) approached her about visiting the Charlie Norwood VA in Augusta, Georgia.  Senator Isakson, a long time supporter for the VA in Augusta, was determined to show the Assistant Secretary just how special this medical center is, along with the creative initiatives and sharing of services successfully accomplished with the Department of Defense at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center.  True to his promise, Senator Isakson arranged for the Assistance Secretary to travel to Augusta where he met her and along with the leadership team, provided a tour.  Even though the visit was short, it was a full schedule of touring not only the VA, but the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.  One of the highlights was a lunch at VA with soldiers, family members, and staff.  Everyone was impressed with the ease and charm of the Assistant Secretary.  She took time to speak with everyone that approached her.
