AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is seeking Veterans to participate in its annual creative arts competition scheduled Thursday, March 9 from 2-3 p.m. at the Uptown Division auditorium, room 3B111.
Nationwide, VA medical facilities use the creative arts as one form of rehabilitative treatment to help Veterans recover from and cope with physical and emotional disabilities. The competition includes 51 categories in the visual arts division this year that range from oil painting to leatherwork to paint-by-number kits. In addition, there are 100 categories in the performing arts pertaining to all aspects of music, dance, drama and creative writing. Through a national judging process, judges determine first-, second- and third-place entries in each category. Local entry deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 22. Winners in selected categories may be eligible to participate in the Department of Veterans Affairs National Veterans Creative Arts Competition in Buffalo, N.Y., Oct 23-29. Participants can read more about the national-level festival at https://www.va.gov/opa/speceven/caf/index.asp.
