VA closes clinics in Statesboro, Athens Sept. 12

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The director of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center has ordered the closure of the Statesboro, Ga., clinic Tuesday, Sept. 12, and a limited closure of the Athens, Ga., clinic on the same day.
The Athens clinic will open at 1 p.m., Sept. 12, and is not a full-day closure.
Officials will use the time to assess damage and to ensure telephones, computer networks and power is working to ensure the safety of Veterans and employees as well as the operability of the clinics. They will also check for any damage caused by the weather.
Veterans who had appointments on Sept. 12 in Athens and Statesboro will be contacted to reschedule appointments. The closure will affect approximately 50 appointments.
The two hospitals in Augusta, Ga., and the clinic in Aiken, S.C., remain open and fully operational.
