AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Focusing on helping homeless Veterans and promoting active lifestyles, the seventh annual VA2K Walk & Roll event happens May 17 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Centers two main campuses and three clinics in Aiken, S.C., Athens and Statesboro, Ga.
Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center will conduct its VA2K events at its two main campuses and three clinics, but it will also have an opportunity for community members to participate in a 1.24-mile walk downtown on the Augusta Riverwalk at the 9th Street Fountain from 9 a.m. to noon. Community members are encouraged to be there 15 minutes before the start. Locally, the VA2K’s theme encourages participants to wear superhero costumes or clothing.
Participants are encouraged to bring voluntary donations like clothing, toiletries, packaged food or bottled water. These donations will be collected and distributed to local homeless Veterans. Donations are not required in order to participate. In addition, regular sized (not sample sized) toiletry items or other items you may feel help homeless Veterans will be accepted.
Community groups who are interested in participating should call call Sheri Loflin at 706-733-0188 ext 7790. Those wanting to make a donation should call the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Voluntary Services department at 706-733-0188 ext. 5959.
