Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center
(UPDATED) Renovation will close main entrance to VA hospital
February 8, 2017
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Work to resurface floors in the Uptown Division lobby of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center will close the first floor entrance to the facility starting Feb. 10 for ten days or until work is completed.
Engineering staff will resurface the granite floor in the lobby, which has been worn by years of use, and replace it with a different service. While 10 days are allotted for the work, Engineering officials believe the work could be completed in five days.
While the main entrance is closed, other entrances will be available for use. An entrance located near the loading dock (called Door 6), the facility’s East Entrance (also called Door 12); the West Entrance near Mental Health (called door 46) will also be open. The Information Desk near the front entrance will also be closed during renovation.
Due to how foot traffic will be rerouted, Veterans with appointments at the Uptown campus are encouraged to add 10-15 minutes to their inbound journeys as there may be delays in reaching the check-in desks. Signs in the parking lot and in many corridors will help direct Veterans to locations of their appointments, to the casher’s cage and other key offices affected by the work. Employees will also help direct Veterans to their destinations.
The Uptown Division is located at 1 Freedom Way in Augusta.
