May 4, 2017

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center will offer will offer free hearing, speech and swallowing screens for area Veterans May 17.

The screenings will take place at the Downtown Campus in room 1D153 and the Uptown Campus room 2A161 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Communication is vital to life. Speaking, hearing, understanding speech, and enjoying social activities such as dining, connect us to what is most important: families,” said Tamara Seabrook, speech-language pathologist at VA Augusta.

Each May, Better Hearing & Speech Month provides an opportunity for VA to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of audiologists and speech-language pathologists in providing life-altering treatment.

Veterans experiencing muffled or dull sounds after leaving a noisy area; extra effort to chew or swallow; trouble speaking or difficulty understanding speech; or have difficulties following conversations in the presence of background noise are prime candidates for this event, Seabrook said.

For more information, call Seabrook at 706-733-0188 ext. 6342.
